Lincoln, NM - Billy the Kid If you are into history of the American west, you will love this drive. We'll leave Roswell between 7:30 & 8am, arriving in Lincoln about 45 minutes later. The coolest site to visit is the courthouse, this is where Billy made his final escape, killing the sheriff and a deputy in the process. The courthouse is still standing, you can stand at the window where Billy shot Sheriff Bob Olinger dead, with Olinger's own shotgun. The courthouse also houses some original letters that Billy wrote to the Governor along with other pieces of history. There are also a couple of shops to peruse and lunch is dutch treat.
